In this continuation of the Synthetic Nude painting series, which he intends to explore for some time, Lans King now works
on the theme of "the other”. The nude body, when in presence of “others”, nude or clothed, takes on another significance.
This presence can be another or the other as alter ego; a mirror image which looks at itself simultaneously objectively and
subjectively. This can be voyeuristic or “autovoyeristic” like watching a film of oneself copulating. This adds to the existing
tension created by the juxtaposition already present between the numerical and the painterly media. Sometimes expressive,
painterly and drawing techniques are combined with a more rigid vectorial graphic structure within the same painting. The examples
below include: Studies for works in progress, digital mockups, studies on wood, paper, aluminium. New materials include translucent
epoxy paints and new acrylics gels. Much more to come for an exhibition planned for Spring 2009...
Other works are in research such as installations, objects, videos and sculptures which will expand the same theme in myriad dimensions...
